Since Michael I started dating, he has given me many Bubblegum machine rings.
Almost anytime we were near the 25 cent vending machines, you could bet he was going to exchange his quarter for a colorful plastic ring and put it on my finger.
The night we left for our trip to Cancun, we stopped at a hole in the wall Mexican restaurant which did indeed have a bubblegum like vending machine with rings.
Michael, ofcourse, got a ring from it. With a joking expression, he put the plastic vending capsule with the ring, in his pocket and said “I’ll save that for later.”
A few days into our trip, Michael and I were walking past the gazebo we will now be holding our ceremony in… when he ask if I would like to take a picture in it.
I shrugged off the question and said “lets do it later” , and we proceeded to the beach bar.
We spent the entire night at the swinging beach bar, celebrating my dads birthday, and meeting new people. We even stayed after closing while the guys stood on the swings meant to be seats, and competed with who could swing higher, and who could do a pull up on the support beam.
It wasn’t until about 1:00 am the next morning that we started to head back to our rooms, and again started to pass by the gazebo. This was when Michael asked me “would you still like to take a picture real quick?”
We took a couple quick pictures under the gazebo, the last with my back to him. When I turned around, Michael was on one knee, holding out a purple plastic vending machine toy capsule.
And he said “Kayla, will you marry me?”
I Immediately remembered the Mexican restaurant ring he stuffed into his pocket and just started to laugh a little bit.
While I was laughing at what i thought was a joke, he was franticly trying to get the lid of the tiny plastic container open.
When i saw he was having a hard time, I grabbed the capsule out of his hand and said “Here, let me help you.”
I pried open the container with the back of my teeth.
I took off the loosened lid, and as I handed it back to him I was very surprised how shiny and sparkly the ring was.
I even made a comment along the lines of “wow, that ring came out of the quarter machine?”
Michael, very Plainly said “It came from a store…….”
It took only a few seconds for me to realize this wasn’t a joke, and that was NOT a gum ball ring inside that container!
I even screamed out a big “ OH!”
… “Oh my gosh, Your being serious?” ….. “Seriously??”
I was still in shock when I heard a stranger somewhere in the background yell out, “Did you say yes?”
I realized I hadn’t!
Michael asked me again, and I then of course said yes!
